Yoshiteru Takariki - Bizen Kurotasuki Aka Katakuchi Saketsugi

It is a very recent work, freshly taken from the kiln in September 2025 (Reiwa 7).
Rather than following only traditional Bizen expressions achieved through classic noborigama firing, this sake pourer was fired using a newly developed method by Takariki-sensei.
By further evolving the Hidasuki effect that emerges when the piece is fired in a sealed condition inside the kiln, he has brought out one of his signature qualities—an intense Hiiro, vivid like a ripe persimmon, across the entire body.
As the name Gentasuki suggests, this piece features a matte black tasuki pattern. Yet when you look closely, parts of the black tasuki appear like Kase-Goma, while other areas take on a mysterious, shadow-like black tone.
Although it is a fairly large sake pourer—about the size of a large beer mug—it is designed for comfort in use. Clay is gathered around the foot so the center of gravity sits low, while the rim is thinned and gently tightened, making it easy to pour.

It is a very recent work, freshly taken from the kiln in September 2025 (Reiwa 7).
Fired in a front area of the kiln where plenty of Goma naturally falls, this Yunomi features a bold and luxurious Nagare-Goma pattern with an impressive presence.
In addition, the piece was fired while absorbing a great deal of smoke, which created a glossy sheen across the entire surface. Combined with the tone of the clay, it gives an appearance almost like melted chocolate.
This gloss makes the surface feel as if it has been gently coated, resulting in a smooth, pleasant texture that improves the comfort in use.
The form is a tall, rectangular-style Yunomi—also suitable for enjoying beer—so it can be used freely according to your lifestyle.
Kazuki Nakamura - Bizen glass

Fired slowly in the middle section of a Noborigama (climbing kiln), this piece is not about bold natural ash effects. Instead, it allows you to fully appreciate the natural colours of the clay itself.
Formed from a blend of high-quality tatsuchi (field clay) and yamatsuchi (mountain clay), it may appear at first glance to be a single brown tone, yet subtle variations emerge across different areas of the cup.
Although it is listed as a “cup,” the size is actually between a small tea bowl and a Yunomi. It can be enjoyed in many ways—simply as a large Yunomi, as a shochu cup or rocks glass with ice, or as a small tea bowl for casually enjoying matcha—making it a wonderfully versatile piece for everyday use.
With daily use, the surface of the fine clay will gradually become gently polished, and the cup will develop an increasingly mellow, richly aged texture over time.

The firing draws out the inherent tones of the clay: around the waist a rich, deep shiso-purple appears, gradually shifting toward the rim into a warm hue with hints of orange, creating a beautiful natural gradation.

True to Akiya’s style, which attracts many fans with its simplicity and subtle edge, this is a bold and challenging piece that breaks away from the conventional image of traditional zodiac ornaments.
Details such as the ears, mane, and eyes are rendered in a somewhat abstract manner, and combined with his distinctive “head-only” approach, the work has a unique presence, almost like a sculpture.
He carefully refined the surface with a hera (spatula) and slowly carved out the form, and the complex wrinkles across the surface are also fascinating—resembling the texture of a horse’s coat.
Fired in an anagama (wood-fired tunnel kiln), the piece has a base of soft peach-toned clay, with amber and yellow Goma layered in a complex way, creating a richly expressive colour that perfectly suits the horse motif.

Takashi Baba - Ruri Yunomi Hidariuma

size : W9.1cm×9.0cm×H8.2cmThis is a Bizen Ruri Yunomi by Takashi Baba, who was born in Inbe and has loved Bizen ware since childhood, finding joy throughout his life in both making works and firing the kiln.
It is one of his latest pieces, fired in a newly designed Noborigama (climbing kiln) in June 2025 (Reiwa 7), with a lucky Hidari-uma (left-facing horse) motif carved around the waist.
The piece is made with Shigaraki clay as a base and coated with a cobalt Ruri glaze,
a truly serious glazed work that is very characteristic of Baba’s dedication to glaze research.
The rough, rustic character of the Shigaraki clay interacts beautifully with the Ruri glaze,
creating rich variations in tone across the surface.
Depending on the light and the angle at which you hold the Yunomi, it shows many different expressions.
On the inside near the rim, the glaze is applied relatively thickly, giving a deep Ruri colour,
while around the curved area of the inner wall near the waist, the Ruri becomes thinner.
Seen as a whole from the inside, this creates a very interesting glaze effect with a strong sense of depth.
