The entire piece is coated with a special clay containing cobalt.

The clay material is adjusted manually.
So the quality of the clay they use is amazing.
This Guinomi was fired in 2021 December.
A strong "Yohen" style Guinomi that has been fired in a large amount of burning charcoal.
However, the quality of the clay is so good that a beautiful red clay color remains in the work.
The finish after baking is also very polite, so I feel it is very fun to touch.

Potter's Profile

He was born in Tokyo in 1972 as the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige.
He graduated from Waseda University in 1994.
He completed graduate sculpture department at Long Island University in New York in 2000.
He became his father's disciple.

This Tokkuri has a green natural glaze called "Kase goma" attached to the entire work.
Kei Fujiwara said in his lifetime, "I like kase goma best among the Bizen ware fire patterns."
Growing up in the majestic nature of Bizen City, he felt the beauty of nature in Kase goma.
And he makes a change in clay color by making close contact with other works and using refractory soil called Botamochi.

He was a writer, but since 1940 he became a potter.
He was accredited as a living human national treasure in 1970.
He died in 1983.

He makes works with normal Bizen clay, and paints black clay after drying.
This Sakazuki was fired in May 2022.
"Kuro" is made of clay with a high iron content in the Osafune district of Okayama prefecture.
Add a small amount of cobalt after dissolving them in water to make it liquid.
The black clay applied to the work changes to beautiful black when fired.
And this Sakazuki has a very special fire pattern.
The bright, transparent light blue fire pattern is a unique color.

Kazuki Nakamura is the grandson of Rokuro Nakamura.
He faithfully reproduces the style of Rokuro Nakamura.
He is also good at making sake wares, just like Rokuro Nakamura.
This work was fired in April 2022.
Hidasuki's Tokkuri fired in an electric kiln.
The rice straw wrapped diagonally around the piece transforms it into a dynamic pattern.
The large hollow in the center of the piece makes it easy to hold.

Potter's Profile

He was born in 1980 in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture as Mr. Makoto Nakamura's eldest son.
He graduated from Okayama University in 2003.
He became independent as a ceramic artist in 2006.

Sozan Kaneshige - Bizen Tokkuri

I guess he did this work between the ages of 60 and 70.
In his later years, he moved to a quieter, more powerful style, but around age 60 to 70, his works are more decorative and dynamic in style.
There are three wonderful things about this work.
The first is about the fire pattern.
The rich gray Yohen, rocky Kigoma, and beautiful red clay colors are very nice.
The second is the intense spatula carving of the pattern.
Kanji characters for the moon and flowers are embedded on both sides, with a simplified hedge pattern separating them.
Finally, the two are fused together as one Tokkuri, and it is amazing that they do not interfere with each other and are properly completed as a single work of art.

Potter's Profile

He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1909.
He was an assistant to his older brother Kaneshige Toyo.
He made a kiln in Maruyama in Okayama prefecture in 1964.
A few years later he completed the Hidasuki by electric kiln.
He came back to Bizen City in 1982.
He died in 1995.

Toru Ichikawa is a disciple of Ryuichi Kakurezaki.
He is keen to research glaze for ceramics.
He is constantly challenging new expressions with original and philosophical themes.
This time, however, he gave it a very simple title KABUKI.
The front of the work is covered with a bright red glaze that looks like blood.
I assume that the color scheme is based on the theme of bushido, like his early work "Hagakure".

He likes symmetrical neat modeling.
This is a late work in his career.
This Guinomi is a fire pattern called Kase-Yohen.
The fire pattern is a combination of kasegoma, a green natural glaze, and Haikaburi-Yohen, which occurs near burned charcoal.
The red clay color inside will look more beautiful with the moisture of the Sake when used.
The skin looks like it has a slight golden effect on it.
