However, this work is burned in a fiery flame until it loses its red clay color.
The melted ash has solidified and changed like a black stone.

This is a middle work in his career.
This Tokkuri was made in 1955.
His signature was conceived based on an ancient Japanese script called Manyogana.
This Tokkuri is made of very good quality clay.
The green cassegoma mixed with blue covers half of the piece and is wonderful.



Hiroshi Goseki - Hakudei Guinomi

He is a disciple of Jun Isezaki.
He learned about Jun Isezaki's innovative design and firing methods of Anagama.
This Guinomi was fired in December 2022.
He works mainly with Bizen Pottery in Ibaraki Prefecture.
However, he is studying not only Bizen ware but also various glazed ceramics.
He used straw ashes as a glaze for this Guinomi and named it "Hakudei".
Hakudei is a word meaning white mud.
The color is a bluish white, and some of the glaze has run off, like Madara-Karatsu.

Tomio ochi is a relative of Anjin Abe.
He was an office worker but loved art.
After retiring from the company, he studied pottery as a student at Anjin Abe.
He studied the control of the fire method of the old Bizen from Anjin Abe.
The clay used in this Tokkuri is the clay from the Shigaraki region collected with Anjin Abe.
He fired this Tokkuri seven times.

Add a small amount of cobalt after dissolving them in water to make it liquid.
The black clay applied to the work changes to beautiful black when fired.



Rokuro Nakamura - Bizen Guinomi

This is Guinomi made by Rokuro Nakamura who is called a master of sake ware.
The red clay color on the front part makes it even more beautiful when you use it by getting wet with sake.
The Nakamura clan's unique body design makes it very easy to hold.
I presume that this Guinomi was fired when he was around 60 years old.
Unlike his later works, which often use bright clay colors, this red clay color is a natural color.

He completed this work using the hikidashi technique he learned from Jun Isezaki.
Hikidashi means taking out the work from Kiln during firing.
The works that touched the outside air will be cooled rapidly and will change to a different color from normal Bizen ware.
The surface texture of this Guinomi also became highly glossy as if it were wet due to rapid cooling.
