This Tokkuri was made by Sozan when he was 73 to 83 years old.
This is the work he has done since he moved to Imbe Ushigamishita, Imbe.
Since moving to Ushigamishita, he has been producing more tea ceremony works and less Tokkuri and Guinomi works.
The artifice of his work from this period has disappeared, and it is very generous and confident.
This Guinomi commemorates the first firing of Ushigamishitagama.
This mark is called Hidari-Uma.
As a good luck charm, it is engraved with the feeling of a horse in mirrored letters.

Potter's Profile

He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1909.
He was an assistant to his older brother Kaneshige Toyo.
He made a kiln in Maruyama in Okayama prefecture in 1964.
A few years later he completed the Hidasuki by electric kiln.
He came back to Bizen City in 1982.
